My Portland Computer blog created!

Just wanted to let everyone know the grand opening of my first attempt at a functional [read-Helpful] blog is now operational.

It's called "Portland Computer" and will be my sister site to this here blog, "mobias" [which I mostly use for blabbing about all things at random]. That space is in the early stages of its design, so bear with the construction. :)

It will be focused specifically on a helping, assisting, advising, recommending, consulting, troubleshooting all things PC related. That's right folks, anything you wish to ask me, I will do my very best to respond in a timely manner, with an honest effort to help you with whatever your situation.

Yep, I am a bit of a jack-of-all-trades, master of more than just none. So ask away! I'm excited to begin a new chapter, and will be setting up a good forum in the future as well, so stay tuned.
(To celebrate my first post, my graphic gives props to a hilarious and inspiring salute to British Sit-com "The IT Crowd" -which I highly recommend checking out)

Eventually, I will get to offering a Custom Gaming Computer 'build' service as well.

So stop on by, visit the forum, send me a request or question, and let's get started! It's very new so be the first on your block to get a forum going!

If anyone has any helpful advice or tips, as this is new to me, i'm all ears!!

EVE Online: Apocrypha -Good things come to those whom wait!

Almost 6 years, an eternity in videogame years, is how long the servers have been running on this (seemingly the only space) MMORPG. It's received a few notable upgrades and expansions, but with the new "Apocrypha"[additional content/upgrade], new players may be just curious to finally take the byte.

I've often debated shutting down my WOW subscription (that's World of Warcraft for anyone living 6 feet under or more), and switching over to this wondrously epic space rpg. I haven't pulled the trigger for a few reasons, one being a common concern, "how will I fare against the ruthless space-nerds sitting high upon 6 year empires?"

Well, it seems to devs were thinking of me, the budding space noob, as well as their wallets, when they decided to throw a bone to a potential new wave of enrollments, by making it a bit easier for us.

I've longed for a endless, sandbox RPG in space, where you could customize your ship, and get out in a FPS view mode into the space stations, ever since the long abandoned (and missed) demo of Westwood Studios' 'Earth and Beyond' graced my first computer, back in the early 2000's.

Eve doesn't appear to have the FPS element, but it might just tie me over with the limitless depth and awe-inspiring visuals it appears to have.

Maybe its time to login and check it out.

United Nations covets Battlestar Galactica for guidance!

wow.
As others noted, I don't know whether to shake my head, or shrug in ambivalence at the out-of-left-field weirdness of this endeavor. What IS next? - James Earl Jones submitting the trials and tribulations of empire building to the U.S. Government? Cautioning Mr. Obama on the risks of pushing the 'rebels' too far, and the pros and cons of imposing helmet-wearing?

With Hollywood calling the shots, The possibilites are Endless!

Windows 7, will be my friend. (and yours too!)

I can't wait for the final version to come out- sources say possibly by the holidays, or next spring if delayed.

That's right folks, love them or hate them, the big MS has moved in a wise step by significantly shortening the regular product lifespan of their last greatest crapperware of an OS...you know the one, it rhymes with 'Pista, and instead coming out with what we wanted in the first place:

A gamer AND business friendly OS that is as fast as XP, requires pretty much the same specs as XP [or even less on mobiles], is less buggy, and more stream-lined (and hopefully stable) as any apple MAC OS.

Just look it up and see for yourself, but even non-MS affiliated reviewers seem genuinely pleased by the early Beta results. It is also supposed to have a newer update to Direct X, 11.x or something in that ballpark. That bodes well for us, the gaming elite.

And if you are lucky enough to have gotten your hands on the BETA, here is a very slick and easy guide to multi-boot Win7 with Vista, and XP if you want....compliments of the sweet and helpful dudes over at Tweaktown.

The countdown begins!
