RollerCoaster Tycoon Movie on its way, Thanks Sony!

Ha Ha-this could be really great with a great script! Think: Bill Murray as the retired amusement park tycoon who’s spirits are down due to lack of interest and anything worthy to top his past creations. Enter- 3 kids and a dumbass parent (how bout Mr. Lumberg’s Gary Cole) to help spark his passion and resurrect an old abandoned amusement park on some coastal town. Shenanigans and site-gags ensue as Bill tries every wiley, low, and hilarious method to create rides that are barf-o-matically hilarious, every one worse than the last; and scrupulous sideshow contests and venders that attempt every dirty trick in the book to rob customer’s blind. +Plenty of 3-D CGI rides shots!!
It’s all in the script people!

I played the heck out of this game when I first began my PC-gaming roots. Glad to see all those 2-D pixels will be getting the HOLLYWOOD Treatment now! heh heh

Anti-"'Insensitive' Gamer" Ad Poster: Too Far-Too Sensitive-Anti-Constitutional!

I'm just adding my two-sense on this little sensitive subject of late. It combines an interesting mash of multiple hot-points: The PC Gamer Vs. Homosexual Gamer Vs. Free Speech.

There is a poster by the Ad Council targeting what they apparently assume all gamers to be- 'Closet, Anti-social, insensitive, homophobic nerds", attempting to dissuade online chatter from using the phrase "That's so Gay!" and other related so-called 'slurs'...The Ad is entitled “Think B4 You Speak”. [how ironic]

The poster is linked here on WIRED onlines site, where other much commenting is going on. Some interesting points of view there, to be sure.

The following is my response to that article, as well as some of the more narrow-minded of comments left on that page.

Caution- the following may contain free speech! Read at your own RISK! ;)
______________________________________________________
Arguing about personal opinions is like..well, asking a gay person to stop being 'gay'!
I've noticed the language trends while playing Left4Dead, as it is a necessarily mic heavy game. I've been in matches where 1 of your 4 buddies are running around like they are on speed/crack/whatever, spouting non-stop obscenity's at me and everyone else, then before we KICK them, they usually attempt a nice TK before they go. Point is, it is going to be everywhere, there is no ad-campaign that is going to fix that dude... If it pisses you off, like mentioned here, KICK them, MUTE them, or ..gasp, don't play in that MATCH/GAME/WHATEVER. There are thousands of other matches to reload; the "I can't enjoy my game experience" whine is ridiculous. That is literally the warning on a multi-player game, if you overly-sensitive ppl read, "Game Experience May Change During Online Play!" I’ve been offended before, I give it back to them, call them on it, if they get worse, I ask the admin to kick them, if it ruins my game, I leave! Vice-versa:I got kicked for saying ‘Bullshit’ in Battlefield 2142 while on a ‘pseudo-Christian server’ HAHA, before they kicked me, I questioned their values and merit in not allowing swear words in a game where people are sniping other guys heads, blowing each other up with grenades, and knifing each other in the back?? I was LoL’ing as they kicked me.
That was pretty gay.

You will never please everyone. Just try to make your teammates/co-workers happy is my motto! If you can’t, at least you have tried!

As far as I’m concerned, that poster threatens my right to free speech! It may not be ‘nice’ for everyone, but it is still my right.
________________________________________________
I have a feeling that I am not alone in my point of view on this subject. For the record, I have NUMEROUS gay/lesbian friends, more than just a passing acquaintance, mind you, and I know for a fact that they wouldn't agree with Ad Campaigns such as that...

Total War: Empire -Sound fix here!

For some, here is a fix for a chronic and widespread sound issue . This was the only solution that saved me..during the initial buggy release of a game I've been waiting for, for a year now.
That's right folks, finish up that last quest in ROME, throw down those last few barbarians in MEDIEVAL II.... you have a new game for the next 3 years... Total War: EMPIRE!
The game is BEAUTIFUL, and immensely engrossing. The puff of smoke that sporadically pops out of muskets and cannon are amazingly realistic, the cannon ball realistically blasts through doomed troops, bounces on the ground, then crashes into a nearby house, taking out half the wall and caving in the roof! Awesome..

Let me tell you, you better have a decent system too, I can play CRYSIS on my pc relatively well, but, this one kills my frame rate on any Ship Skirmish involving more than 2 boats.....sigh..it sure looks like a pretty slide show of Naval Combat though!

BTW-oh yeah, here the sweet fix for any sound issues that you may be having. Not sure if it solves all of them, but this one seems to fix numerous people's issues online.. until the next patch hopefully clears it up. As of this date, the newest patch is only MARCH 30.
Good luck., and stay tuned for my little review once I get a tolerable frame rate and working game!
This FIX is for people who are having problems with The Sound cutting in and out of: - Intro Video - Road To Independence videos - SEGA Intro...

Okay so I tried all the suggested fixes that people have given on the forums. None worked. I even tried to edit my bios to fix the problem. I found the solution by my own experiences. TO FIX THE SOUND BUG DO THE FOLLOWING: * MUST HAVE Left 4 Dead Game OR Get The FREE Left 4 Dead Demo

1. Go To Program Files
2. Go To STEAM Folder
3. Go To STEAM Apps
4. Go To Common
5. Go To Empire Total War
6. COPY the file Binkw32.dl and store it in a backup folder on your desktop
7. GO BACK one Folder (Before Step 5)
8. Go To Left 4 Dead (Demo)
9. Go To bin
10. COPY the file binkw32.dll
11. Go Back To Empire Total War folder
12. DELETE or OVERRIDE the file binkw32.dll
13. NOW PASTE the file binkw32.dll
14. THAT'S IT! GO back to the game... it should work. I hope it works for you. Let me know. Cause of BUG: Problem with the latest version of BINK Video Codecs

UPDATE 9/2011: An update patch has been released for this game. Before you try any of the fixes mentioned in this article, update your game to the latest build and check if the problems are fixed. If you are using the pirated version, a cracked patch has been released by RazorDox – read all about it here.
Note that you may encounter none, some or all of the problems mentioned below – user experience seem to vary from each installation. Also, not that some of these problems may exist in the legitimate version of the game as well. We cannot guarantee that the fixes mentioned in the article will solve all your problems – sometimes they will and sometimes they won’t.
Sound issues, missing sounds and other audio related problems
Problem: Missing sound effects. You may encounter missing or no sound effects with Empire : Total War. For example, when you give the command for a unit to march, you may not hear the corresponding sound effect. Some have reported missing sounds from horses, swords, cannons, etc as well.
UPDATE 8/03 (Working Solution): Search TPB for "etw_sounds_sfx.pack", download it and replace the sounds_sfx.pack file in the game's installation folder.
Solution 1 (Untested): Note that I have not tested this solution myself. Backup all replaced files before testing his method.

  1. Download the Empire : Total War Demo and install it (It’s a free Steam download).
  2. In the Demo installation directory, locate the file demo3.pack. Rename the file to sounds_sfx.pack
  3. Browse to the installation directory of the full game (not the demo). Replace the sounds_sfx.pack file located in the full install dir using the renamed filed created at step 2.
  4. Run the game
Solution 2 (New/Updated) : Download the “Empire: Total War sound fix for all releases” which can be found on public BitTorrent trackers.
Problem: Missing voice acting and missing/skipping advisor messages
Solution: See solution 2 for Missing sound effects problem (above)

PC games Vs. Life, a self-check.

So there is a GREAT article in Wired online today:
HERE
And while reading this, between the usual witty/funny/insanely dumb comments below, there was one that caught me..as it sounded as if it were me writing it in. I will excerpt:

"For me it came down to figuring out why I always stayed up so late anyway. With a career, a wife and 3 small children it was so that I could get more free time at the end of the day. If I went to bed earlier, that was it, more work and responsibilities before any chance at leisure time. When my wife started going to the gym at 5am, I decided to try getting up with her and enjoying the quiet time and it made a huge difference! (XBox 360 experience is much better with rested eyes and fresh contacts too) Now I get tired around 10:30pm and I go to bed knowing that I'm going to have 2 hours or so to myself when I get up, so it's something to actually look forward to rather than dreading the normal morning rush. Then on the weekends when the kids wake up at 7:30, it still feels like I slept in.
Posted by: Jason Feb 26, 2009 7:37:07 AM"

I mean...my WoW/Fallout 3,Oblivion characters get more sleep than I do! what does THAT mean?

my reply:
"@ Jason-> dude!- of all these [some funny, some very dumb] comments, yours was an exact replica of what i'm going through. I stay up WAY too late, even though my rotating shifts sometimes force me to get up by 4:45am.. i know i'm dumb, but i fight it every night, and sit on my pc till i literally nod off..wife hates it. don't want to get up even EARLIER though just to jog...maybe i need to re-prioritize, but what do i do?"

I must learn to balance more...sleep/wife/family, is more important than games, makes you feel better, more energetic, which makes you more productive, be a super-star at work, which leads to better and higher paying jobs, which leads to-you got it, more time and money to go back and play those PC GAMES ! !.. see where i'm going with this??

left4dead ...a zombie i hath become...

I knew i would like this game...

I have been playing this for the last 3 nights in a row, shortly after the holidays where I received it as a gift.

Tense, engaging, cooperative!! no more running around aimlessly by yourself as others do the same, on a so-called 'team' [here's looking at you battlefield/counterstrike loners], just try this game on 'Expert' difficulty, and you will know what it means to be a real team-member.

-Friendly fire hurts! [Dammit Bill, watch...your...FIRE!"]
-Selflessness is rewarded! [mobias protected XZomBieSlay3r's back!]
Hunt or be hunted... Stand still too long, or straggle behind for even a moment, and you will hear the groaning gargle of an elite zombie, hiding just behind that tree over there...just waiting for you to turn your back to pounce in a shriek and flurry of violent Zombie slashing.

The core of this games addictiveness is in its simplicity, forcing you to react in your most primal survivalism instincts. There is no inventory management, you have pistol, main gun of your choice, either pipe-bomb or Molotov cocktail, and your trusty melee attack to keep swarms of rushing zombies at bay. That is it. Get from A to B, and try to keep your buddy alive while doing it, or it will be a lot harder, and a lot lonelier too!

Within 5 minutes of beginning a campaign, your reflexes begin to sharpen, your every sense on hyper-alert. The sound of a bird flying from a nearby tree causes your aiming reticle to jump, your keyboard hand begins to tremble. The change in music ques the approaching 'Tank' zombie, or witch in hiding, and your fight-or-flight instincts begin to kick in. Indeed, the longer you play this game, the less food you eat, the less sleep you get, and the more Zombie-like you will become in the daylight hours- mark my words, and be warned!

Check out the trailer here: then buy asap.

GTA 4 -in mayhem we trust.

I LOVED GTA-Vice City. Being a child of the 80's, the tropical Miami-Vice esque city with all those songs from my childhood cranked up while cruising in an old [generic version] of a White Chevy Nova, never got old. The neon lights of the disco, the wispy rain of the occasional florida thunderstorm. For me, its immersiveness that make me love or forget a game.

For me, the cleverest gimmick that the devs dreamt up, is the vehicle's radio stations. Just to be able to drive up to some rich Billy Idol style mission target, side view your machine gun out your window, mow down your objective in a spray of bullets and blow out the tires, causing him to careen into 3-4 other cars and catch them on fire, knocking down light poles with the ensuing explosions, splattering a gaggle of screaming mall shoppers- all while grooving smoothly to White Snakes 'Here I Go Again' is nothing short of sublime.

The bemoaning critics, the electioneering Senators, and susie-Q Christian's view on why i play these games is humorously far off the mark- which testifies to their ignorance of the subject of which they posture:
I, Dear Mr./Mrs. Fear Monger, play these games because they are a escape from our all-too politically correct, overly-polite, Utopian society that we strive to live in. And at the same time, enjoy the re-creation of a very vivid period of time that a great many of us, the X-gen game-players, have lived through. I play to hear that long lost song that i fell asleep to, as a insecure, pimple-faced 14 year old boy. I play to let out a little aggression of daily stress, which is a daily affair in a modern, hectic working U.S. life. I play to appease a creative mind, that has always wondered, "What IS it like to pay for the services of a prostitute, then accidentally run her over with your 79' El Camino, thereby allowing you to relieve her of the cash you just provided her?" What IS it like, to jump off the highest building in the city, and parachute down to infiltrate a mafia king's home? Do a triple-reverse flip with a dirt-bike, fight off a whole platoon of comically robotic Army Guardsmen, with Grenades and rocket launchers, then stealing the smoking remains of their hummer-all to park it in your newly purchased exotic mansion garage!? I think the first time i played this game, i was laughing non-stop for about an hour, it was all just so randomly humorous, in it's over-the-top exaggerations and mayhem.

Back then, the graphics were good, however untextured, but they had their own style. San Andreas, vastly increased the area to play in, with an additional 2 large city's, another awesome mix of early rap and grunge hits, and added a sweet 'heat-shimmer' effect to the hot summertime atmosphere of early-90's L.A..

So, judging by the screenshots, this version IV looks to be a giant leap in the graphics and fidelity of the detailed environment, and i'm sure there will be uncountable missions to perform, hooker's to cuddle, bro's to cohort with, and unlimited enemies to de-pixelize. (hopefully with hilarious and awe-inducing moments of grandeur)

Looks Like Rockstar ushers in another addition to the emerging concept of modern art- the video game.

Here is a link to the site, as well as to the inevitable patches:
And, an interesting philosophical take on the game play virtues from a couple Harvard egg-heads:

my Fallout 3 hands-on first impression

Thank you, Bethesda, for this awesome game...the bar has been raised, for interactive art. sometimes, a game comes along that really amazes me, and this is one.

the intro is so cool, you have to at least play this if you were doubting. It took 2 hours just to get past the entry setup/prologue story, to where I escape the vault, and step out into an incredibly detailed world as the sun is just going down...i went about a 100 yards before I already found someone that apparently needed some help, but didn't talk to him yet, and just looked at everything...the sun and sky,in the distance birds were circling above something they thought was interesting, and they were clear and un-pixelated!- the amazingly detailed burned out skeletons of buildings and rubble, a destroyed and charred children's playground, a strange robot probe that was wandering back and forth, with some weird old 50's propaganda recording coming out of its little speakers... Just seems really unique and well-crafted. they obviously spent a good amount of time on the environment.

I hope the rpg elements are a step above the rest, but it was so late, and i had to finally pry myself away, before i engaged the first real quest. i look forward to my future adventures.

the one thing that crept up in the back of my mind, as i began wandering the desolate rubble, was that i was relating more to this environment, identifying and thinking more in terms of-'what would i really want to do now, where should i go from here', more than say, oblivion or even star wars. As incredible as those worlds are, i feel like it is a fantasy that requires more 'suspending' of reality and disbelief, to fully enjoy the way the creators intended. With Fallout, i can actually feel like i could realistically be in the characters shoes. i can relate to this fictional, yet all-too-possible reality of a nuclear catastrophe within a large, modern, and familiar real-world city.

i know a game is immersive for me, when i find myself taking the time to slow down, smell the roses, open up its treasure boxes, and move about as if i was really there-instead of rushing around, just trying to kill the last guy with a gun, to get to the next level. i have begun losing interest in those 'wash, rinse, repeat' style games on equal timeline with my ever-shrinking chance to actually play games. C'est la vie!

This type of game, i appreciate as art, an escape from reality that places you into a story that [arguably] you wouldn't (hopefully!) be in, and make decisions you would never be required to make in any real-world job. That is the allure and the fun of the RPG, i feel.

The return of the 'PiP-Boy 3000' gadget, a monochromatic, all-in-one arm device that anyone who grew up on 80's personal computers can fondly appreciate, is handy and fun to play around with. The character faces remind me of Half-Life 2, but i agree with the official reviews, people do seem oddly stiff when they walk, engage you, and as they speak, while any other characters in the background become oddly frozen until you are done.

Another minor whine about the characters, they engage each other randomly in conversation, (which is cool) much like Oblivion, but when numerous people are in the room, it can become hard to hear your primary interests words, when 3-4 other conversations are happening, all at the same volume, right next to you. Maybe a patch or plugin will be made to adjust this...

But i am a perfectionist when it comes to games [often dream of designing them], and i know it is impossible to make a perfect product, but it just seems odd that things that people complained about, or were minor issues as far back as morrowind, still inhabit a developers game code.

Ah-well, that's what the modding community is for right? By far, this was a very inspiring 2-hour intro into a world that i am positive i will enjoy for many, many more hours.

... i'm happy to report-the game rocks so far.

Fallout 3 - Stop whining and just buy it!

It seems the new trend for every new gamer these days:
rush out to buy the latest big name/big money PC game hot off the press, spend 50 to 70 dollars doing this, then before the plastic has even a chance to cool, your off to amazon to write your disdainful little self-congratulating review of how bad the GAME sucks because of the latest copyright protection embedded in the software.

People- the reviews are for the game itself, the design and effort put forth by the programmers at the development studio. This is usually a completely separate building and department from the bean-counting lawyers that run the PUBLISHING company, IE. EA. If you want to bemoan and outrage against the latest version of copyright software [Securom etc] then fire up your browser and point it to EA Support and send them a not-so-friendly email. They are the ones ultimately responsible for these decisions, and should be the ones you aim your whining to.

And if you really feel like mentioning this in your game review, at least know what you are talking about. I love it when reviewers go off on a tirade, only to have gotten all their facts wrong, including what it does to your machine, the limitations of installing, and what version and type of embedded software it even is. Do your research before influencing and ruining a good title's Amazon ratings!! You are actually hurting the developer in the end, by writing such flagrant reviews. You mean well, and i know how frustrating it is dealing with EA in regards to installation issues and patching etc, but don't go barking up the wrong tree, and punish the people that worked hard MAKING this game for you.

....thank you.

**And for the rest of you that actually value your own opinions, go and get this game, it may not be how 40% of the whiners wanted it, but it has it's merits as a work of art, and an interactive diversion from the reality of these troubled times.**

sorry- i have to brag, it took me 3 hours to perfect this beast!
